IS YOUR POWER SUPPLY SINGLE PHASE OR THREE PHASE Most electric power companies furnish homes and small commercial operations with single phase current. Factories and large commercial and industrial users require three phase current to power their machinery and equipment. Single phase motors may be used on three phase systems. Three phase motors, however, cannot be operated from single phase systems without a converter. The paragraphs below compare the advantages and disadvantages of both types.
SINGLE PHASE current is more readily available than Three Phase current but the amount of electricity consumed is greater and single phase motors have internal starting switches that can make the life of the motor shorter. Common voltages for Single Phase Motors are 115/230.
THREE PHASE current is not as available as Single Phase. The advantages of three phase are that much less current is consumed and there are no internal switches which can shorten motor life.
Common voltages for Single Phase are 115/230 at 60 Hz Common voltages for Single Phase are 110/220 at 50 Hz
Common voltages for Three Phase are 208/230/460 and 575 at 60 Hz. Common voltages for Three Phase are 220/380/440 at 50 Hz
Amerek Blenders can be furnished to operate on 50 Hz.
